Since the beginning of my career, I have maintained a strong focus on supporting the whole student, recognizing that this approach includes meaningful engagement with students’ families. Research suggests that engaging families in intentional and meaningful ways can improve student retention, strengthen support systems, and help students and families navigate institutional policies and processes. My work has focused on developing comprehensive communication models, incorporating professional standards and best practices, and creating inclusive programming that responds to the diverse needs of students and their families.
Building meaningful partnerships with parents and families is essential to supporting student success and strengthening the overall student experience. Engaging with our advisory board has been a particularly rewarding part of this work, providing valuable opportunities to listen, collaborate, and incorporate the perspectives of parents and families into our efforts to better support students.
Our fall and spring Family Weekends provide meaningful opportunities for families to connect with campus and share in their student’s college experience. Each weekend is thoughtfully curated with both students and their families in mind, offering opportunities to engage with the campus community, experience university traditions, and create lasting memories together. These programs reflect our commitment to ensuring that families feel welcomed, connected, and equipped to be supportive partners throughout their student’s journey.
